A New Angle On Climate Change
Dawson Oakley, a biological engineering senior, Honors College Fellow and hobbyist videographer with a passion for the outdoors and sustainability, decided to merge his interests by developing a video that raises awareness about climate change issues and showcases how engineering is being used to mitigate them.
Daylighting Hot Springs
When Zane Colvin moved from rural Wynne to bustling Hot Springs, he was wowed by the urban energy of his new home, but curious about the hot springs — where were they? Check out his bold proposal for Arkansas’ top tourist attraction.
Sustainable Cities
Last spring, 15 students studied 20th-century practices that spawned thorny problems for 21st-century cities. Nate Cole’s final project focused on the “last mile” issue in Bogotá’s peripheral barrios.

Where They Are Now: A Snapshot
The Honors College is 20 this year, and we have plenty to celebrate: cutting-edge courses, exceptional students and dedicated faculty, to start. For the best evidence of our success, we look to the lives our alumni shape for themselves. Here are three early graduates who have excelled in their fields — but their trajectories are not without challenges and occasional setbacks. All three are changemakers committed to advancing their professions, from making breakthroughs in science to ensuring that all voices are heard.

For her honors thesis, Madeline Braun explored how the Kansas City Chiefs and the Razorbacks cultivate identity loyalty within their own brands. To find the secret sauce, she distributed a survey asking both Chiefs and Razorbacks devotees to answer questions about their sense of pride and loyalty in their team.
Say Yes
As a standout high school student in Bryant, Arkansas, Ben Hood thought about leaving the state to attend college. But after coming to the University of Arkansas to interview for a fellowship, he realized that “Arkansas was providing a really special opportunity … to do a tremendous amount and go in a lot of different directions.” Hood was selected for the first group of Bodenhamer Fellows in 1998 and made good on the opportunity to explore academically.
Funny Name, Serious Business
Fayetteville-based beardedgoat, a clothing brand that boasts 34,800 followers across Facebook and Instagram, is gaining traction across the country for its “technical and everyday apparel,” which encompasses everything from “flannel shackets” and boardshorts to “waffle beanies” and sun hats — a selection as varied as the team that envisioned it.
Moving Further, Aiming High
Nastajae Alderson is an Honors College Path Scholar majoring in English education. An opportunity to interview and record the memories of her community’s elders sparked her interest in researching and sharing the stories of people of color. Join her for a walk through her hometown.
